Building is a High Stakes Game.
Building and renovating is serious business, I know. But let’s treat it like a game—just for a moment. Maybe not as fun or low-stakes as Guess Who or Taboo, but a game nonetheless.
Building is high-stakes game because the risks are personal: Your time, money, and energy are on the line—plus the seemingly elusive hope of ending up in a home that truly feels like you imagined (without blowing the budget or your relationship).
Like any good game, you need a strategy. Even in Monopoly, right? (My brother had one—he’d wipe the floor with my sisters and me every time.)
You wouldn’t see a Super Bowl team take the field without a plan. They’ve picked their plays, and they know how they want to move.
Building’s no different. And yet, so many dive in without a clear play—and it can get costly and messy fast.
There is no one-size-fits-all strategy. Each has its pros and cons. Success comes from choosing the right one for you and your project.
I’ll be sharing more at the Melbourne Home Show this week in my session, Your Home Build Playbook—where I’ll walk through the six most common plays in the building game.
What play will you choose? Because building isn’t won by luck.
It’s won with the right play.
PS: Are you keen to learn the six most common ‘Build Plays’? Come down to the Home Show Melbourne. I’ll be presenting at 11.30 am this Friday 11th April, and I’d love to see you there. Grab your free tickets here.
